Event Recap

On March 28, 2025, the City of Portsmouth hosted another successful ROC the Block event in the Cavalier Manor neighborhood. With support from city departments, community partners, and volunteers, the initiative focused on enhancing the area's cleanliness, safety, and livability.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Participation: A total of 221 individuals contributed to this effort, including 10 representatives from Rivers Casino and 12 volunteers from Tidewater Community College (TCC).
  • Waste Management & Cleanup:
    • 186 bags of trash were collected.
    • The total weight of collected waste was 2,208 pounds.
  • Permits and Inspections:
    • Issued 63 notices including:
      • 7 for debris
      • 20 for inoperative motor vehicles
      • 36 for property maintenance violations
    • Follow-up reinspections are planned to ensure continued compliance and progress.
  • Parks and Recreation:
    • Removed trees, brush, and overgrowth along Rapidan Street, which covered a significant area.
    • Assisted with litter pick-up throughout the neighborhood.
    • Cleared tree branches obstructing a STOP sign on Lyontine Lane, enhancing traffic safety.
